Ed Horwich has been a professional photographer since 1982.
After studying at Derby College under John Blakemore and Paul Hill, his career began by teaching photography to adults at Open Eye Gallery.

During the early part of his career Ed undertook several commissions to make hand crafted photographic prints for gallery exhibitions. He was also commissioned to produced the original colour prints for Martin Parr's book "The Last Resort".

COMMERCIAL & FINE ART
Since then he has worked both as a Fine Art and a Commercial photographer, with major clients such as NHS, British Gas, Penguin Books, Haymarket Publications, and exhibitions in galleries throughout the UK and europe.

He was an early adopter of digital photographic techniques, producing his first digitally originated work, for the the London Symphony Orchestra, in 1991.

In 1996 he undertook a 24 month commission to photograph all 36 London boroughs for London Transport. During the course of this he also tackled the first digital images commissioned by the transport authority.

PRODIG
A founding member of the AOP's Digital Imaging Group, he created the Prodig email forum List in 1997, enabling professionals from around the world to exchange information about the digital image. Prodig now has over 1,700 international subscribers.

SUN AWARDS
In 1989 Ed exhibited in the very first Shot Up North exhibition in Manchester.
In 2004 along with two colleagues he took ownership and relaunched the event as the Sun Awards.
All of them having been involved with the Association of Photographer's Northern Committee which previously organised the event.

AOP
Ed has been a Director and Board member of the Association of Photographers between 2004 and 2007.

Ed has taught workshops as a visiting teacher/lecturer at a variety of schools and colleges.

PODCASTS
Keen to encourage the exchange of knowledge across a wide audience Ed produces a number of Podcasts. These have featured recordings made at public meetings, as well as interviews with key personalities and practitioners across the creative industries.

INTERNET PROJECTS
Alongside the growth of digital imaging, Ed also became involved in many aspects of internet communication and publishing. In 1997 he formed a web development company and has worked on a wide range of commercially exploited educational projects in the UK and throughout Europe. These include several innovative pilot projects commissioned by the European Union. As a result Ed has a wide exerience of working with large groups of multi-national partners.
